Some amazing things come along with winter… the first snowfall, soft and magical, playing in the snow with the kids, sitting in front of a roaring fireplace bundled in a cozy blanket drinking hot cocoa or wine.
But along with old man winter comes a few not-so-great things like shoveling sidewalks, hazardous road conditions, and yep you guessed it…winter skin. It can be dry, itchy, cracked, chapped, and downright uncomfortable! But never fear! We’ve got some winter skincare tips for you, remedies you can indulge in at home to beat the dry winter skin blues.

There are many wonderful skincare products you can purchase to combat winter skin dry patches and all-over scaliness. Some are fancy and expensive and some are very basic and a bit more affordable.
Alternatively, you can whip up something natural at home like a DIY body butter or lotion. Whichever you choose, they all have the same purpose in mind… to help dry winter skin.
You’ll find a common theme among these winter skincare tips…locking in moisture. Caring for and preventing dry skin on your hands, face, and your entire body is about creating a barrier that protects your skin.
How To Soothe Dry Winter Skin Naturally

Cocoa Butter
Cocoa butter helps restore your skin’s moisture balance and prevents dry chapped skin caused by exposure to frigid temperatures and cold wind. It’s a wonderful choice for the face and the body.
Yummy-smelling and oh-so-moisturizing, Jamaican Cocoa Butter is one of my favorite things in life. I especially love it as an overnight treatment. I slather it on generously, then cover my hands with cotton gloves and feet with thin cotton socks overnight.
Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil is lighter feeling but it is amazingly hydrating. It is full of nutrients, and vitamins (E and B complex), and has anti-inflammatory properties that tame chaffing, chapping, and redness. It keeps the skin calm and comfortable and can even lessen the effects of rosacea or eczema.
Jojoba oil can be used on its own or added to your regular moisturizer. It works wonders on dry winter hands, cuticles, face, and lips and it absorbs into the skin quickly leaving no greasy residue behind.
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is a pretty magical plant and has been used in healing remedies for thousands of years. It is antibacterial, anti-aging, rich in vitamins like A, C, and B, and of course is insanely moisturizing. Aloe Vera gel can actually improve your skin’s ability to hold onto moisture. Apply it to your skin as a moisturizer or as a deep treatment such as a facial mask.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil deeply moisturizes dry winter skin and helps retain the skin’s moisture and elasticity. It also is rich in medium-chain fatty acids, stimulates collagen production, and has strong antioxidant qualities. Coconut oil is fairly comedogenic though, meaning it can clog pores and contribute to acne, so if you have oily skin, don’t apply it to parts of the body that are acne-prone. Try to use organic, cold-pressed for best results.

Its popularity is no surprise as it goes to work quickly as a dry winter skin fix.

Skin becomes dry when it stops retaining water. When the weather outside turns frightful, this is exactly what happens. Your skin is exposed to air that is cold or if you live in the great white north as we do, it can get downright freezing. This winter air also lacks humidity (moisture).
But you’re most like not outside for lengthy periods of time right? Well, that forced air heating that keeps us snug in our homes can also be very dry causing dry, chapped hands.
