Get Creative With Your Smoothies

You can always use the smoothie recipes below as a guideline and mix and match with whatever healthy ingredients your kids love!

I love using frozen fruit because it is already chunked up and always in season in the frozen food section but you can use fresh if you prefer or mix it up with some of each.

Baby spinach is wonderful hidden veggie to add to kids smoothies because it is so mild, you literally cannot taste it. But how do you hide the green color if you so desire?

When I add the baby spinach (or anything green) to our kid smoothies we always hide it with dark-colored fruits since we have one of those “oh no, it’s green, no way” 5-year-olds. The best darker-hued fruits to us are blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and cherries.

Oddly enough, when our son was a toddler he would drink the green juice but now he’s put off by the color. Just one of those childhood phases I suppose (hope) but if we have to hide the greens for now, so be it.He is still getting the nutrients and yumminess and I’m not getting any argument so it’s a win-win situation!

Kids Will Have A Blast Making Smoothies With You!

Safety first naturally. YOU will be operating the blender and keeping little fingers out of harms way!

Toddlers and young children love to be helpers and that includes in the kitchen. Whipping up a frozen concoction together can be a fun bonding experience with many teaching moments!

Toddlers can practice naming the fruits and their colors while older kids might be ready to learn about measurement units, or how things turn from solid to liquid. Science! Plus, kids will be really proud of what they create!

Of course, if you are leaning towards blending up hidden veggie smoothies, you’ll have to be sneaky when adding greens (or just save those recipes for when your little helper is not around to help).

Can You Use Baby Food Pouches To Make Smoothies?

You may want to use pre-made baby food pouches occasionally for a bit of added convenience, especially if a smoothie recipe calls for things like carrot, beetroot, or broccoli. It’s an easy way to get a variety of fruits and veggies into your toddler or kids smoothie recipe!

Fresh or frozen ingredients score higher on nutrition in most cases but in a pinch or if you are just experimenting with a new flavour, a baby food pouch will do.

Keep Kids’ Smoothies Simple, Nutritious, And Tasty!

All of these fruit and veggie smoothie recipes for kids use simple and uncomplicated ingredients that can be found at your local supermarket.

And remember, the best thing about these tasty smoothies is that creating them is not an exact science.

Feel free to mix and match any ingredients and to “eyeball” the amounts to achieve the consistency and thickness that works for you. Have fun with it and maybe you’ll discover a new recipe on your own just by experimenting!
