Two of the Yummiest Fertility Smoothie Recipes Ever: (His AND Hers!)
A delicious fertility smoothie is an excellent way to pack a punch when it comes to nutrition and can be very beneficial when you are trying to conceive, not to mention incredibly tasty!
They say you are what you eat. It’s a pretty simple concept really. It stands to reason that improving your general health can improve your fertility.
Think back with me to high school biology class. Remember learning about cells? Every cell in our body is affected by the foods we eat every single day.
Cells regenerate themselves and the fuel we put into our bodies are their building blocks.
- The human cell is the source of the body’s energy supply; it keeps us not only functioning at optimal health but functioning at all. When our cells are healthy, we are healthy, and when our cells are sick, we get sick. The old Maxim “You are what you eat” remains true. How well your cells function, the quality, and the integrity of the new cells your body creates, all depend on the nutrients they are provided on a daily basis. ~Mfon Essien, Murrieta Valley Surgery Associates. Boosting your overall health and wellness through good nutrition when you are trying to get pregnant just makes common sense right?
I tried to pay close attention to my nutrition when I was TTC and subsequently during IVF treatments. I ate a Mediterranean diet as much as I could and I especially got into juicing and making smoothies. The amount of vitamins and nourishment that you can concentrate into one glass is actually pretty amazing.
If you are a bit on the older side, as I was, you’ll most likely be interested in improving egg quality after 40 naturally. Fertility smoothies are a quick and easy way to help do just that!
As a side note, not everyone will need (or necessarily want) to do IUI or IVF. It’s obviously a different situation for everybody. I just thought I’d mention that as my husband and I did try to get pregnant naturally at first.
Packing all this nutritious goodness into a tasty smoothie is a perfect way to start your day every day. Make it a part of your morning routine, remember consistency pays off. The vital nutrients found in the ingredients turn these fertility smoothies into powerhouses to help your body function optimally.
Remember though, it’s not just about the egg!
How To Make Sperm Stronger For Pregnancy
Improving the health of the “swimmers” is essential too, whether you are TTC naturally or with the help of a reproductive specialist through IUI or IVF.
Using some of the best fertility foods and supplements, these delicious and nutritious fertility smoothies can help improve egg quality for her and sperm quality for him.
I reached out to Dr. Marc Sklar at The Fertility Expert for his input on how to make the best fertility smoothie for him, as well as Sarah Clark at Fab Fit Fertile for her Fabulously Fertile Smoothie recipe for her. They both kindly agreed to allow me to share their recipes and expertise with you!
Now, let’s dive into these 2 fantastic fertility smoothie recipes for him and her!
Male Fertility Smoothie
By Marc Sklar
Couples facing fertility issues will often automatically assume that the problem is coming from the female side. Actually, more than 40% of the time, it’s the male side that’s bringing challenges to the fertility journey.
These challenges can easily be fixed IF they’re treated in time.
Don’t wait for bad news before taking care of sperm health and quality. Good sperm is key to reducing the risk of miscarriage and increasing the chances of a healthy, full-term pregnancy.
Something as simple as a delicious fertility smoothie every morning can help improve sperm count, sperm motility, and sperm morphology.
In this Male Fertility Smoothie recipe, I’ve added Raw Cacao Nibs. This adds a chocolatey taste to the smoothie — but that’s not why I’ve added them. Cacao Nibs are high in L-Arginine, an important amino acid that increases sperm count and improves sperm quality.
There’s also a tablespoon of ground Maca powder in there. Maca is a Peruvian root vegetable known for its powerful hormone regulating properties. Maca helps to increase sperm count and volume, as well as improve motility. (And it’s a great libido booster!)
The next thing we’re going to add is 1 Banana. Not only is this going to make the smoothie delicious, but it’s also a great source of vitamin B and bromelain. Both of these improve libido and increase sperm production. Bananas also contain high amounts of magnesium, and manganese which are important for a healthy prostate.
We’re also going to add a couple of ounces of Walnuts. Walnuts are rich in omega 3 fatty acids.
Studies have shown that 2.5 ounces of walnuts a day for 12 weeks will improve sperm quality, motility, vitality, and improve sperm morphology. They also reduce chromosomal abnormalities!
Finally, we’re going to add a handful of antioxidant-rich Goji berries that combat cellular damage during spermatogenesis and improve blood circulation to the testes.
Blend this all up with some almond milk and you’re ready to enjoy a delicious drink whilst naturally improving male fertility!
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons of cacao nibs
- 2.5 ounces of walnuts
- 1 handful of goji berries
- 1 tablespoon maca powder
- 1 banana
- Almond milk
Method
- Blend all together in a high speed blender and enjoy!
Fabulously Fertile Smoothie (For Her)
By Sarah Clark
This smoothie is loaded with fertility superfoods. It can be your go-to morning smoothie. It is great for boosting egg health and helps with hormonal balance. The chia seeds are a complete source of protein and fiber.
If you are going through IVF treatments, consult with your doctor whether it is appropriate to use maca, royal jelly, or bee pollen.
Prep time: 5 minutes
Yield: 2 servings
Ingredients
- 1 cup frozen or fresh organic berries (blueberries, raspberries, cherries, blackberries)
- 1 cup spinach or kale, stems removed, washed
- 2 cups unsweetened almond, hemp milk, or coconut milk
- 2 tablespoons chia seeds soaked in ½ cup of unsweetened non-dairy milk for 10 minutes for gel to form (See note below.)
- 2 teaspoons maca powder
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons royal jelly (If allergic to bees, do not use)
- 1 tablespoon bee pollen (If allergic to bees, do not use)
- Add some fresh mint to garnish (optional)
Method
- Mix ingredients (excluding the mint) in a high-speed blender. If mixture is too thick, add more nondairy milk
- Serve immediately
Notes
- If you suffer from thyroid issues, omit the spinach and kale
- If you have allergies or asthma, do not use royal jelly or bee pollen
- For the chia seeds, if you don’t have time for soaking, throw the chia seeds in the smoothie without soaking. They will take a few minutes to expand while in the smoothie.
- Feel free to add some protein powder. I like Sun Warrior protein powder the best. it’s vegan, gluten-free, and processed sugar-free.
